Multi-room audio is presently characterised by low sound quality and installations that are frequently complex or difficult. This is due primarily to the technology associated with the analogue implementations that have been popular for the past 15 years.
Naim
has developed NaimNet, a solution that sucessfully addresses both the sound
quality and installation complexity problems. Offering high quality audio
distribution and control around the home is appealing to households where
music is important, and fits perfectly with Naim's long-established tradition
of performance-led equipment.
Most music already exists digitally: by offering a way to transport that music around the home without any loss of quality, while providing full control and acknowledging that this is increasingly an AV world rather than just audio, NaimNet allows the company to address this market.
While other companies might share the same objectives, they have failed to address fundamental technical problems: their solutions either incur digital losses or result in a lack of synchronisation between rooms, which result in unacceptable delays on the system making video and audio lip-sync impossible.
Naim has developed its suite of NaimNet products, which addresses all these issues. We can deliver bit for bit transport with zero loss, while ensuring synchronisation between rooms of less than 1mS, and minimal delay on the system, which provides full AV compatibility. By using standard Ethernet the products offer relatively simple and low-cost installation with no limitation to the number of rooms or sources.
The NaimNet portfolio provides not only the means to distribute and control music, but also music servers with lossless storage and truly advanced database features. This provides an unusually rich user interface allowing even jazz and classical music lovers to search and recall their music with far greater ease than existing servers can provide.
A further special application of NaimNet is the ability to provide a simple connection between any number of suitable Naim Hi-Fi systems, so allowing the flexibility of sharing sources regardless of their locations.
NaimNet also opens the door to whole house control of lights, AV screens and blinds, heating, and security, as a result of easily configured interfaces to network-connected partner products.
Naim has employed the NetStreams® StreamNet technology to faciliate its entry into the high-end custom installation arena and is proud to be the company's first European partner to use this ground-breaking application.
