How do I rip a CD to the server internal hard disc?
The server will now detect the CD and calibrate the CD drive for reading the CD.
Once the CD drive has been calibrated for the disc the server will begin by reading the disc contents and looking up the disc data using an online data provider to populate the details of the disc within the servers databases. If the disc details cannot be found (or there are any changes you wish to make) then you can manually enter or edit data using the Desktop Client application.
The server will then read each track in turn and store it on the hard disc for later retrieval. The disc will be ejected by the server once ripping is complete.
What file formats can I play on my NaimNet system?
We use full bitrate WAV files (44.1kHz, 16bit) when a CD is ripped to our servers and the servers themselves can support sample rates up to 96kHz and sample depths of up to 24bit.
Currently we can play back non-DRM'd WAV, MP3, WMA , FLAC and AAC files on the servers.
In a Multiroom NaimNet environment only the playback of non-DRM'd MP3 and WAV files is supported on room amplifiers.
How many zones can I have in my NaimNet system?
NaimNet is a completely different approach to multi-room audio. Gone are the long runs of analogue audio cables and we replace them with bit-accurate digital transmission over an Ethernet network. One advantage of using Ethernet networking as a transport mechanism is that a NaimNet system can handle very large networks - in theory over 1.8 million devices on a NaimNet network which should give enough potential for any size of practical installation.
How can I control a Naim Music Server when used as a standalone music player?
There are several control interfaces available for the Naim Music Servers when they are used as standalone players.
The server may be connected to a display device (TV, projector or flat panel display) via a composite video, S-video or VGA connection and controlled using the included IR remote control. It can be controlled via a USB touchscreen display connected to the servers video or VGA outputs. It generates a web based interface which can be accessed across an Ethernet network from any flash-enabled web browser and it can be controlled from our desktop client application which can be run on a separate Windows PC.
I'm using my server as a standalone audio source; must I have it connected to a network?
The server uses its network connection for internet access when looking up CD data and when playing back audio from a network share - if you are only playing back audio from the server itself then the server does not need to be connected to a network / internet connection other than when you are ripping CDs.
What is the difference between an NS01 and an NS02 and why?
The NS01 and NS02 are differentiated by the NS01 having a single audio output (presented on a Naim style locking DIN connector, duplicated on a stereo phono output) whereas the NS02 has four audio outputs (the first on a Naim style locking DIN connector and duplicated on a stereo phono output with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th outputs on stereo phono outputs).
What is the difference between an NS03 and a Naim HDX?
The HDX has a single audio output which has been designed with higher fidelity in mind and which can take an external XPS or 555PS power supply. It also has a brushed finish fascia.
The NS03 has four audio outputs (the same as on the NS02), no external PSU facility and a painted fascia.
Both units have the front panel display.
